Ohio Ghost Tours
You have landed on the list of Ohio ghost tours, a subset of the Funtober ghost tour directory. Ohio definitely has its share of ghosts. Ohio University in Athens is reportedly one of the most haunted college campus in America. In Cleveland, Zillow called Franklin Castle one of the top 10 haunted homes in the U.S. The Shawshank Redemption was filmed at the Mansfield Reformatory, where you can now hunt for ghosts overnight. And even the Ohio Statehouse has a haunted tour. This directory includes ghost walks, ghost hunts, trolley tours, cemetery tours, and haunted house tours that will be of interest to history buffs, ghost hunters and/or thrill seekers.
Ohio Statehouse Haunted Tour is run for four days every October. It is a family friendly lantern led tour of the Statehouse limestone corridors by staff members and volunteers. generally held on the Friday and Saturday on the two weekends preceding Halloween. Tours depart every half hour between 7 and 9 PM. Tickets are limited and should be purchased early by phone, online or in person at the Statehouse Museum Shop. Parking is offered at their underground facility for an additional fee.
Columbus Landmarks Foundation runs walking and bus ghost tours in October in a neighborhood just east of downtown Columbus. The 3.5 hour walking tours start at Topiary Park and offer a stroll down Town Street, where historic homes and Italianate architecture dominate. Approximately 450 people, and possibly a few spirits, joined them for the tour in 2013.
Old Town Ghost Tours – Dublin
A ghost walk of historic Dublin, Ohio. The cost is $10 for adults. Not recommended for children under 12. Tours begin at Blankets and Booties.
Haunted Cincinnati Tours is a three hour bus tour that explores some of Cincinnati’s most haunted locations. Their signature tour is the Ghosts of the Queen City Tour, established in 2008. It departs from Fountain Square at 520 Vine Street. Overnight ghost hunts are available at Poasttown Elementary and Sedamsville Rectory at a cost of $59-69 per person. Participants for these events meet at the location of the hunt.
Miamitown Ghost Tours is a 90 minute walking tour of Historic Miamitown. Tours are generally held Friday through Sunday as well as Halloween. The ghost tour is $10-15 and starts at Miamitown Methodist Church. A ghost hunters tour is also available for $20-25 where members from Tri-State Paranormal and Oddities Observation Practitioners join the group and allow you to use their ghost hunting equipment to capture evidence of paranormal activity. They hold additional activities for Miamitown Paranormal Festival which will be held October 4, 2014 this year. So we expect a zombie walk and a horse drawn ghost tour again this year. The tour was founded by brothers Michael Morris and Jeff Morris in 2006. They are the authors of Cincinnati Haunted Handbook and Haunted Cincinnati and Southwest Ohio
Cincinnati Music Hall
Guided ghost tours of this National Historic Landmark happen approximately one day per month. Stories about ghosts in this historic building date back to the early 1800s. Locations on the tour include Taft Museum, Eden Park, Memorial Hall and Music Hall. Tours are led by guides from the Music Hall and Cincinnati Research & Paranormal Studies. They last about two hours and guests are encouraged to bring ghost hunting equipment.
American Legacy Tours
The hosts of the popular Underground Tour also run ghost tours in September and October, including Queen City is Haunted and Newport (KY) is Haunted.
Haunted Cleveland Ghost Tours offers four hour ghost tours in October visiting haunted locations around Cleveland. There will once again be a new tour for the ten evenings of spooky stories and history from late September to early November. The tour was founded by Chuck Gove in 1999. Past tours include History Haunts Cleveland, Mystery Murder & Mayhem, Blown Away! Cleveland Rocked Mob Haunts & More, Salute to Cleveland’s Ghosts, Ohio City & Beyond, Lake Front, Burning River and more.
Haunted Cleveland Tours offers bus and walking tours in the Cleveland area.
Willoughby Ghost Walk is a 1.75 hour walking tour of downtown Willoughby at twilight. The tour covers paranormal activity and strange phenomenon in a 12 block area. Operates on Friday evenings at 8 PM from June until October. A Saturday evening tour at 8 PM is added in September/October and 7 PM tours are held on Friday and Saturday in October as well as the 8 PM tour. Prepaid reservations are required and tickets can be purchased online or over the phone. The tour was created by Cathi Weber and has been operating since June 2008.
Lantern Tour of the Ghosts of Zoar is a one hour candlelight walking tour through Zoar Village. Tours are available on Friday and Saturday evenings at 9 PM at a cost of $18 per person. Reserve your spot online or by phone. The tour covers haunted locations such as Zoar Hotel, First School, the Boy’s Dormitory, Bimeler House and the Cider House.
Mansfield Reformatory offers ghost hunts and overnight paranormal investigations in Mansfield’s famous haunted prison. The public ghost walks are two hour guided tours of reported hot spots as well as stories of murder and death at the prison. Public ghost hunts and extreme hunts are overnight investigations of the facility after a tour. The price of these investigations is $50-70. They generally do not hold events in September and October due to the haunted attraction they hold at the prison.
Ghost Walk with Victoria offers walking tours of Port Clinton, Ohio and Marshall Inn. The cost is $8.50 per person. Victoria is the innkeeper and author of Ghosts and Legends of Lake Erie’s North Coast. The inn was built by her great-grandparents more than a century ago.
Spirit of Roscoe Tour – Coshocton, Ohio
Guests of the Spirit of Roscoe Tour will learn about this ‘spirited’ 1800s canal town through stories of long ago personalities, significant events, curiosities, and ‘spooky’ stories about Roscoe’s Firebug, the tragedy at the 1800s hotel, the danger and humor of being a post boy, the atrocity of a bloody bible, and a tale of love lost during the Civil War. Tours begin at 7 p.m. at the Roscoe Village Visitor Center. Adults $9.95, Students $4.95. Runs during October during the Apple Butter Stirrin’ Festival
Hidden Marietta – This ghost trek starts for the 2014 season on June 6th. Learn about local murders, hauntings and paranormal activity. Marietta was the first permanent settlement in the Northwest Territory and Ohio’s oldest town, so it has plenty of history. The tour lasts approximately 90 minutes. Tours leave across from Lafayette Hotel at the fountain at the corner of Front and Greene Streets. The cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Cash only. Hidden Marietta was founded in 2008 by Lynne Sturtevant.
Ghostly History Walking Tours – Museum at the Friends home offers monthly ghost tours in the summer and more frequent October tours. Waynesville has been called the most haunted village in Ohio. The October tours conducted by volunteers of the Museum on three evenings a week explore historic downtown Waynesville or the Quaker Historic District. Reservations are required. Tickets are $12 per adult and $5 per child under 12. After the one hour tour, you can also take a self-guided tour of the Museum (included in the price). Ghost themed dinners are also offered at the Hammel House Inn in October.
Garrison Ghost Walk – Explore Fort Meigs from the War of 1812 on October 17-18 and 24-25, 2014 with a guide. Reservations are required and may be made starting September 1st. Proceeds benefit the Old Northwest Military History Association.
History, Haunts and Legend Tours – Hanoverton
They have been offering Hanoverton’s Original Ghost Walk for the last five years. Stroll down picturesque Plymouth Street where most of the buildings were constructed in the 1800s, explore a local cemetery after dark, and learn about historic events and paranormal activity in the area. There are also a variety of other history and educational tours including a Gravestone Meanings Tour and a History & Buildings Walk. All tours begin behind the Spread Eagle Tavern except the Gravestone Tours which start over at the Old School House located across Route 9. Tours are $8 for adults with children under 12 years old free. Hanoverton is located southwest of Youngstown and east of Canton.
