Family Vacations

The kids are back in school.  You don’t want to pull them out for a week or more.  You know they won’t let you stand a long trip to enjoy the fall foliage without something awesome for them.  Here are a few ideas to keep the kids happy and occupied during a fall family vacation.

Family Farm Stay Vacation – Also known as haycations, farm vacations are popular in Europe and part of the growing agritourism movement in the United States.  Harvest season is an excellent time to see the farm in operation, and there should be plenty of activity to keep you and your kids busy.  For a weekend getaway, visit a farm with a corn maze for a day.

Explore the Big City – Fall is a fabulous time to visit the big city.  You’ll find fewer tourists and hotels with empty rooms eager to fill them.  But the cities are as busy as ever, since there inhabitants have returned from summer vacation to work and school.  Pick a big city and explore for a weekend or a week!  That’s San Diego pictured above.

Enjoy nature at a National Park – There are fewer visitors to America’s National Parks in the fall.  But that just means you’ll be able to enjoy nature better.  Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway or a week long vacation, you can make a trip to a national park part of your October adventure.

Orlando – For a longer trip, consider Disney’s Magic Kingdom Park and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.  Take your kids out of school and enjoy a week in Florida.
