The Kachemak Bay Wooden Boat Society holds an annual festival in September. The activities begin Thursday and include sea chanteys, tall tales and fisher poets at the Salty Dawg Saloon, key note speakers at the Islands and Ocean visitor center theater followed by movies related to fishing and sailing, and building wooden yachts. Then on Saturday the wooden boat show opens on the Spit, and features a tour of the waters includes a WWII era wooden tug converted for charter use, kids boat building, marine demonstrations (including knot tying, net mending, and bronze casting. Musicians entertain and food, beverages, hoodies and shirts are available for purchase. That evening there’s a live auction, music and dancing at Alice’s Champagne Palace. The boat show continues on the Spit Sunday and includes a voyage in a Bristol Bay double-ender.
