Enjoy a pageant, parades, marching band contest, carnival, medallion hunt, chili cook-off, 5/10K & fun run/walk, and more. Wondering about the name? Look at it backwards! That’s right, Neewollah is Halloween backwards, and this festival began in 1919 as an effort to provide fun and positive activities for residents of Independence to enjoy in place of pranks traditionally occurring around Halloween. It continued until it was interrupted by the Great Depression and World War II, but it was revived and enhanced in 1958 as a three day festival, and has continued to grow since! It’s now a ten day celebration filled with fun for all ages, so come on down and enjoy!
