Amazon Prime Day 2018 Deals and Date

We are excited to bring the best deals from Amazon Prime Day 2018 here to you. Prime Day is Black Friday in July at the nation’s largest online retailer. It has also become one of the biggest kick-off events for back-to-school shopping across the country.

You will need to have an Amazon prime membership in order to take advantage of the deals. However, Amazon has offered discounted memberships or a 30 day free trial for those signing up for the service.

Prime Day has singlehandedly become one of the biggest shopping days in the United States. Although it has yet to reach the levels set by Singles Day from Alibaba, China’s ecommerce giant, Amazon sales are now topping a billion dollars during this single day in the middle of the historically slow summer shopping season. Although its retail competitors have tried to steal some of its thunder, the one-day only promotions offered by Amazon obviously have a lot of fans.

We are going to be gathering some of the best deals during Prime Day here at Funtober as part of our back-to-school 2018 shopping coverage. We hope you stop back then and enjoy our coverage. In the meantime, here is some information about the date for you to start getting excited.

On What Date Will Amazon Prime Day 2018 Happen?

We anticipate that Prime Day will fall on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. For the past two years, Prime Day has occurred on the second Tuesday in July. This year, the second Tuesday falls on July 10th.

Prime Day has been held as late in the calendar as July 15th, so it is possible that Jeff Bezos could decide to have it on July 17, 2018 instead. However, with the Back to School shopping season pushing forward into July, it seems unlikely that Prime Day will fall later in the calendar year.

Because we know you love deals, we will post the date here as soon as it is announced.

History of Amazon Prime Day

The first Prime Day was held on July 15, 2015. It celebrated the 20th anniversary of the creation of (the company was initially incorporated under another name). They rolled out new deals every 10 minutes. The day broke sales records at the company, selling 34.4 million items across Prime-eligible countries at a record of 398 items per second. This exceeded its sales from Black Friday 2014 by 18 percent.

Prime Day 2016 fell on July 12, 2016. Amazon increased the number of items in stock so that they could offer the discounts to more customers. They also rolled out the new discounts at a faster pace – every five minutes rather than every ten minutes in 2015. It turned out to be the biggest day ever for the online retailer and its order volume exceeded the previous Prime Day by more than 60 percent. Amazon ended up selling two million toys and more than 90,000 TVs that day.

Prime Day 2017 happened around July 11, 2017. It technically started at 9 PM Eastern on July 10th and finished 30 hours later at 2:59 AM Eastern on July 12th. It ended up being the biggest sales day in Amazon’s history. Sales were bigger than either Black Friday or Cyber Monday 2016. The event grew by more than 60% compared to Prime Day from the previous year. The most popular item with buyers was the Echo Dot.

Amazon Prime Day 2018 will have a tall order if it is going to set another record and stay Amazon’s biggest shopping day. Cyber Monday 2017 topped the previous record for sales set by Prime Day 2017.

Why is it called Prime Day?

It also allows streaming of millions of songs, free Kindle e-books and other benefits. The cost of Prime is currently $99 for a 12 month subscription.

Prime History

Amazon Prime was launched in 2005 to offer subscribers free two-day delivery on an unlimited number of items for $79 a year. The service followed on the success of its Free Super Saver Shipping.
