Hippies were part of a cultural movement among the nation’s youth during the 1960s which emphasized rock music, drugs and the sexual revolution, among other things. Their fashion style included bell bottom jeans, tie-dyed garments, and Native American jewelry. They wore their hair long and preferred to wear sandals or go barefoot. The movement culminated in the Summer of Love in San Francisco in 1967 and Woodstock in Bethel, NY in 1969.
