An orphan as a child, Clint Barton ran way and joined the circus. He became an archer under the tutelage of the carnival's archery expert, who performed trick shots for the circus. Barton's weapon of choice is a recurve or compound bow. His arrows are high tech with tips that produce smoke, explosions or other special effects.
In the movies, he is portrayed as a bit of a hothead who wants to belong within a group. He made a brief cameo in Thor before being played by Jeremy Renner in The Avengers (2012). There is also talk that Hawkeye, like his potential love interest the Black Widow, will get his own feature film.
