All Seasons Apple Orchard - Woodstock, IL
The McHenry County farm is run by James and Sue Hong, who purchased it in 1989 and planted the apple orchard. They have more than ten varities of apples and pears for picking in September and October. A 10 acre corn maze with 3 miles of paths and a lookout bridge. There is both a challenging path through the corn and a shorter path for kids. Pumpkin picking and barnyard activities like the petting zoo, jumping pillow, mini zip line and pig races (weekends). Located about 90 minutes from Chicago.

Apple Holler - Sturtevant, WI
Pick pumpkins or pick your own apples in their 75 acre orchard. There is also a farm park with corn maze, slides, bounce house, pony rides, pedal cart rides, gemstone mining and more. Farm animals feature goat walk and Haflinger horses. Country store offers gifts, crafts and more. Special event in September is the Apple Pickin’ Family Festival and October is the month for Apple Pickin’ and Scarecrow Festival. The farm was established in 1988, it has been owned and operated by the Flannery family for more than 25 years.  If you pay for apple picking, you get free wagon ride and farm park admission. Some activities require activity tickets that can be purchased for an additional cost. The farm is located 27 miles south of Milwaukee at 5006 South Sylvania Ave., Sturtevant, Wisconsin.

County Line Orchard - Hobart, IN
The closest u-pick apple orchard to downtown Chicago is actually located in Indiana. They have more than ten varieties for PYO. Fresh pressed cider available in 1/2 gallon and 1 gallon sizes. They also have a toddler play area and cut two maze designs into their corn every year. Apple spiced and pumpkin spiced donuts are made fresh daily. Caramel apples, homemade fudge, pies and breakfast breads also available. Since the start of their farm, they have planted more than 10,000 apple trees in more than 30 varieties.

Currans Orchard - Rockford, IL
Open daily in fall for PYO apples. More than ten varieties of apples are grown here including Gala, McIntosh, Honeycrisp, Jonathan, Empire, Red Delicious and Granny Smith apples. Enjoy apple cider and donuts, wagon rides, farm animals, apple launcher, crafts and straw bale mini-maze.

Edwards Orchard West - Winnebago, IL
A Northwest Winnebago County orchard with apple and pumpkin picking. Enjoy homemade apple cider, apple cider donuts and cider slushies. Kids enjoy the petting farm, wagon slide, corn crib and play area. Located northwest of Rockford.

Heinz Orchard - Green Oaks, IL
A no-frills apple orchard in Lake County located a little over 30 miles from downtown Chicago. It has been operating for more than fifty years. There is no admission fee and free parking. Purchase 1/2 peck or one peck bags before entering the orchard. Cash only.

Honey Hill Orchard - Waterman, IL
A family owned and operated pick your own orchard that started as a hobby in 1965. 17 different varieties of apples ripen every year. They open for the season in late August. Free wagon rides on weekends. Pumpkin patch opens in late September. Enjoy cider donuts, pumpkin donuts (last two weekends in October), oven pies and hand-dipped caramel apples. Country Store offers apple cider, locally grown honey, gourmet foods, candles, crafts, fall ornamentals and gifts. Special events: Pumpkin Harvest Weekend is October 10-13. Three giant pumpkins will be given away over the weekend.

Jonamac Orchard - Malta, IL
Apple picking starts Labor Day weekend on their 20 acre orchard. In total, they grow more than 40 varieties of apples available for picking or purchase in their store. Prices range between $13 for a 1/2 peck (5 lb bag) and $42 for a 1/2 bushel (20 lbs). There is no admission fee to enter the orchard but they ask that you purchase your bag before you start picking. Pumpkin patch opens in late September. Activities include an apple launcher, apple canon, pony rides, trike track, slides, jumping pillow and duck races. Located about one hour and 45 minutes away from Chicago.

Royal Oak Farm - Harvard, IL
16,000 apple trees and 30 different varieties located in Northern Illinois near the Wisconsin state line. U-pick apples and pumpkins at the east side of the orchard. Bakery has fresh apple cider donuts and their famous apple cider slushees. Entertainment area includes petting zoo, replica train, carousel and play area. Look for special activities during AppleFest and PumpkinFest. Located 15 minutes south of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
