Fall Peanut Festivals

It’s almost the season for fall peanut festivals.  Celebrations of America’s favorite legume abound in September and October during harvest season. If you love your dry roasted peanuts and chunky peanut butter you’ll want to partake in one of the many festivals honoring this crop once grown by President Jimmy Carter.

Visiting a peanut farm may actually be one of the highlights you can look forward to. The process is quite remarkable and impressive with its sheer quantity. Parades are usually on hand as are numerous culinary booths featuring the humble peanut in all kinds of dishes. Today it’s hard to believe that Americans needed a lot of persuading to eat peanuts which they believed were best left as hog feed up until George Washington Carver began to sing the peanut’s praises just over 100 years ago. Where would we be now without Reese’s?
