The organists of the Kotzschmar organ compose soundtracks to some silent films. Not-so-scary family friendly films start at 6pm in Merrill Auditorium, followed by the classic Battleship Potemkin.
Halloween Potluck & Scary Readings - Boothbay Harbor, ME - Oct 30, 2019
The Opera House will once again be decorated for the Halloween season, awaiting the arrival of brave community members for the annual community potluck dinner and evening of scary readings. Please bring a main dish, side dish, salad or dessert (no breads, please), with plenty to share, in addition to a serving utensil. Also, please remember to bring a plate and fork for yourself. The Opera House bar will have beverages available, please do not bring your own. Wear a costume, or not. Following dinner members of the community will read stories and passages – frightening, unsettling, scary and more. This is intended to be a grown up Halloween event and they do not suggested for families with young children. Doors creak open at 5:30 pm, no early admission – dinner at 6. Readings at 6:45.
Little Monster’s Ball: A Sweet Fall Festival - Portland, ME - Nov 2, 2019
9-noon. This one-of-a-kind, snoozing-crawling-toddling-friendly, definitely not scary, baby oriented costume party is the Birth Roots’ creative endeavor to bring more fun and attention to early parenting. Local businesses and organizations have come out in a huge show of support for this idea, partnering with Birth Roots as “activity sponsors”, providing either a toddler activity station or tabling on topics of interest to parents. The intention is to create an event that specifically & successfully supports and acknowledges the unique developmental window of the youngest among us, crawling and newly toddling babies, and newly established parents.
