Oktoberfest at Cannstatter Volksfest-Verein - Philadelphia, PA - Sep 4 to Sep 6, 2021
The popular Labor Day Oktoberfest in Philadelphia that kicks off the German celebrations here in the US returns for its 147th year. Three days of great food, fantastic entertainment, vendors, kids activities, singing & dancing, crafts, souvenirs & prizes, and more, running the Saturday-Monday of Labor Day weekend each year in the Northeast section of Philadelphia. One day ticket is $6, a two-day pass is $9, and a three-day pass is $11, and kids under 12 are free. The park opens at noon each day.

Highlights include German music, dancers, beer, food, crafts and artwork. Runs Friday from 5 to 9 PM and Saturday from 11 AM to 9 PM. The mayor’s keg tapping will occur at 11 AM. It takes place at the Town Center Parking Lot behind the first block of East Philadelphia Ave. Parking is available on several local streets and lots. Anticipated attendance is approximately 5,000 people. Rain date is Sunday. This annual event on the third weekend in September is a fundraiser for Building a Better Boyertown. BBB is a nonprofit organization formed in 2002 to promote the community, preserve its historical heritage and attract people.

The bar owner behind glittery Christmas pop-up Tinsel, is getting ready to debut Nightmare Before Tinsel, a Halloween-themed bar with a zombie wall, a room of 1,001 eyes, spider webs, and other creepy decor perfect for Instagram photo ops. It’s at 116 S. 12th Street, where Tinsel is also held. The address was a jewelry store for more than a century, so perhaps there are some old-timey diamond-clad ghosts inside. The display and buildings are all made of natural materials – bark, leaves, twigs, hollow logs, mosses, acorns, dried flowers, seeds and stones – to form a perfectly proportioned miniature landscape complete with small streams. Each building, while an exact replica of the original, is unique in its design. Philadelphia-area landmarks such as a masterpiece replica of Independence Hall are made using pinecone seeds for shingles, acorns as finials and twigs as downspouts.
