There’s an impressive list of fall festivals in Kansas this year.  Once you have moved past the Kansas Oktoberfest celebrations.  There’s a ton of fall festivals in September and October.  And some of the more unique festivals in the states.  A maple leaf festival outside of Canada?  A wizard of oz party?  These are just two from the list that you should definitely check out in 2017:

Kansas State Fair - Hutchinson, KS - Sep 8 to Sep 17, 2017
Midway, carnival rides, car show, antique farm machinery show, exotic animal petting zoo, pig races, motorcycle rally & parade, antique tractor pull, pedal pull championships and more.

Derby BBQ Festival - Derby, KS - Sep 9 to Sep 9, 2017
People’s Choice Cook-off and kids chocolate chip cookie bake-off.

Spinach Festival - Lenexa, KS - Sep 9 to Sep 9, 2017
Celebrate at the Spinach Capital of the World (declared in the 1930s) with thousands of others. The World’s Largest Spinach Salad, spinach recipe contest, cooking demonstrations and kids’ activities. Held at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park. Admission is $1 with children 12 and under free.

Walnut Valley Festival - Winfield, KS - Sep 13 to Sep 17, 2017
45th annual event. A music festival with bluegrass and other forms of acoustic music. Attendance is approximately 15,000 annually. Held on the third weekend in September at the Cowley County Fairgrounds.

Village West Winefest - Kansas City, KS - Sep 16 to Sep 16, 2017
Get wine and food from 30 restaurants on the Wine Walk, 100+ craft beers in the beer garden, fireworks and after party.

Cornstock - Garnett, KS - Sep 23 to Sep 23, 2017
The Anderson County Corn Festival. Live music, cornhole, night golf tournament, outdoor fun show and more.

Overland Park Fall Festival - Overland Park, KS - Sep 23 to Sep 23, 2017

Rod Run - Hutchinson, KS - Sep 29 to Oct 1, 2017
A classic car show with main street cruise.  Hot rods, antique cars, motorcycles and more.

St John’s Oktoberfest - Lawrence, KS - Sep 30 to Sep 30, 2017
Live German band as well as kids games. 26 Kegs of Beer from 4 different Paulaner beers, Free State Oktoberfest, and Angry Orchard Crisp Hard Cider. Looks like beer starts at 3 PM and food starts at 4 PM.

OZtoberfest - Wamego, KS - Oct 7 to Oct 7, 2017
Highway 99 and Lincoln Avenue (The Road to Oz) celebrates the classic American film the Wizard of Oz with a car show, costume contest, bike ride and more.

Oktoberfest Arts and Crafts Festival - Atchison, KS - Oct 7 to Oct 7, 2017
The Junior Guild’s 34th annual Oktoberfest with German food and music as well as more than 100 arts & crafts vendors. Event takes place all day Saturday. Several thousand attend the annual event along the outdoor mall.

Bethel College Fall Festival - North Newton, KS - Oct 14 to Oct 14, 2017
The Saturday fall festival is preceded by Taste of Newton on Thursday, special events on Friday, and followed by the final performance of the fall fest stage production on Sunday. Fest has children’s activities, sports events, food, music and more.

Maple Leaf Festival - Wellsville, KS - Oct 21 to Oct 22, 2017
An annual community event on the third weekend in October since 1958. Parade with floats, marching bands and antique cars. Craft sale, quilt show, rides and more.

Kansas International Film Festival - Overland Park, KS - Nov 3 to Nov 9, 2017
Early bird passes are $50. Regular price is $60. A limited number of individual tickets also available. Held at the Glenwood Arts Theatre.

Svensk Hyllningsfest – Lindsborg – October 13-14, 2017
Visit Little Sweden for this Swedish honoring festival. First event took place in 1941. Smörgåsbord (a Scandinavian feast), arts & crafts, folk dancing, parade, Swedish music and more.

The 14th annual Oktoberfest runs from 5 PM on Friday. It will include entertainment and dancers. Family friendly with games for kids, Kinderhall and moonwalk. Cost: Admission is free.

Fort Hays State University Homecoming/Oktoberfest - Hays, KS - Sep 30 to Oct 2, 2016
The annual Hays Oktoberfest from the Volga German Society. It will have german food, keg tapping and family friendly component. Held on Fort Hays State University Homecoming weekend. Oktoberfest is on Friday with the heritage celebration continuing on Saturday and Sunday (based on past history). Honor our Heritage events take place in a Beer Free Zone.

Oktoberfest Wichita - Wichita, KS - Oct 1 to Oct 1, 2016
It is a community event sponsored by The Church of the Blessed Sacrament Men’s Club. It is an outdoor event taking place on Quentin Street. Enjoy beer, bratwurst and music while in the beer garden. Children can enjoy the inflatables, rides and games. Musical lineup features multiple bands. Rosstoberfest 5K kicks off the event and there is also a one mile fun run. Bid in the silent auction or live auction to win fun prizes. $11 wrist band for all you can ride amusement rides. $5 cover charge after 7 PM. Complete dinner plate is $7.50, with ala carte brats available in the beer garden for $2.50.

Fairlawn Oktoberfest - Topeka, KS - Oct 1 to Oct 1, 2016
Fairlawn Plaza holds an annual Oktoberfest event from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm under their huge 8000 square foot tent in the parking lot. Event is host by the German-American Club of Topeka.

Oktoberfest Stafford - Staffod, KS - Oct 1 to Oct 1, 2016
There will be a parade, horseshoe tournament, scavenger hunt and an antique tractor show. Pumpkin decorating contest and cow patty bingo as well. They hold the largest wiener dog races in Kansas. There will be a food court, beer garden, stage entertainment and kid’s activities. Tanganyika Wildlife also puts on a show with exotic animals on the stage.

Tallgrass Film Festival – October 14-18, 2015
It is the largest independent film festival in Kansas. Flavorwire called it one of the top ten Best-Under-The-Radar Film Festivals in America. Attendance is approximately 12,000.
