Mackinac Bridge Walk - Mackinaw City, MI - Sep 2, 2019
Walk across the bridge from either St Ignace or Mackinaw City! Each year, between 25,000-60,000 people from across Michigan and beyond come to walk the Mackinac Bridge, the 5th longest suspension bridge in the world and the longest suspension bridge in the Western Hemisphere, at a total length of 26,372 feet (suspension length of 8,614 feet). The bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic, so walkers are encouraged to a) walk halfway across and then back b) walk all the way across and have a ride arranged to go back or c) walk all the way across and all the way back, about 10 miles (must cross the midway point by 10am to go all the way across the bridge). A fun fourth option could be a daytrip to Mackinac Island and taking the farry back to your origin point! The Mackinac Bridge Authority has recently declined to close the bridge for other events, so this is your chance to cross the Mighty Mac” without your car!”

The Port Huron and Detroit Railroad Historical Society will host Hobo Fest at the former property of The Port Huron & Detroit Railroad, located at 2100 32nd Street in Port Huron. The event celebrates Port Huron’s history as a vital international transport center, the city’s struggle to overcome the economic depression and the courage and resourcefulness of those that rode the rails seeking work and adventure. On Friday evening the traditional lighting of the campfire kicks off all the activites. Watch the crowning of The Hobo Royalty and check out videos about the railroad. The festivities continue with a Spam carving contest and cook off, acoustic music, children’s activities and much more. Hobo Fest is a FREE family friendly, educational event that brings people together of all ages to experience the life and adventures of the hobo. Hobo Fest takes place rain or shine so please bring lawn chairs and dress casually according to the weather.
Lakeshore Harvest Ride - South Haven, MI - Sep 14, 2019
The ride is a fun and picturesque bike tour over rolling countryside near the shore of Lake Michigan. You can visit art studios, wineries, cider mills, family farms, and orchards to take advantage of all that southwest Michigan has to offer. There are four routes for varying abilities of 15 to 62 miles in length, both taking off from Douglas and South Haven, and all net proceeds go to support the construction of an off-road, recreational pathway between South Haven and Saugatuck.

Growing up in Metro Detroit, we always made an annual trip to Frankenmuth in the fall to enjoy the German food in in Michigan’s Little Bavaria. This is the only Oktoberfest outside of Munich to be sanctioned by them. The annual event will have live music from German bands, polka dancing and wiener dog races at the Harvey Kern Community Pavilion. The festivities kick off on Thursday night at 3 PM. Organizers generally expect between 8,000 and 10,000 to be there over the course of the weekend. Adult admission is $10 with no charge on Sunday.

An annual fall event since 1997. Friday night will have bingo at the VFW Hall and Comedy Night at Village Cafe & Pub. Saturday will have a number of events including classic car & hot rod show, chili cook-off, and Italian wine tasting. Pumpkin and face painting in the morning for kids. Games in the early afternoon include barrel race, Sprint for the Stein and egg toss. The entertainment tent will show both Michigan State and Michigan football. Polka dance contest, chicken dance contest and live music on Saturday evening. Events are located around Village Green, a park in downtown Pentwater located on the west side of Hancock (Main) Street.

ArtPrize has shifted to a biennial competition to make way for the Project series of citywide art commissions. The two formats will alternate years moving forward, with Project 1 launching this fall. ArtPrize is a huge art competition with prizes of over $500,000. Open to anyone over 18 working in any medium. Rochester Mills Beer Oktoberfest - Rochester, MI - Sep 28 to Sep 29, 2018
The event traditionally runs Thursday through Sunday and celebrates the unveiling of their seasonal Oktoberfest lager brewed in-house. Ceremonial keg tapping on Thursday evening. Friday and Saturday has brat & kraut eating contests and a stein hoisting competition. Live, traditional German music throughout the celebration as well as scheduled bavarian dancing. A one litre beer stein has historically been available for collectors to purchase. For the first year in 2013, a carnival was hosted by the Rochester Hills Lions Club in conjunction with the event. Carnival games, moonwalks, pony rides, a petting zoo, a climbing wall, clowns, and temporary-tattoo artists were available for families to enjoy. In 2011, they served up 72 kegs of beer, more than 100 bottles of wine, 2000 bratwurst and 200 pounds of sauerkraut.
