Matsuri Kauai - Lihue, HI - Sep 22, 2018
The festival will showcase different groups of Japanese talents and Japanese culture on Kauai. Taiko performances and classical Japanese dances will also be featured. Usually a featured performance from Japan is presented at this event along with some hands on activities (i.e. oshibana, origami, oshie), crafts, kimono dressing, tea ceremony, shodo, bonsai, ikebana, etc. The event will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall, Lihue. The event is free and open to the public.
Kaua’i Mokihana Festival - Waimea, HI - Sep 23 to Sep 29, 2018
A week-long celebration of Hawaiian culture. A variety of events are planned including music and hula competitions. The festival started in 1984 as the Kaua’i Composers Contest and Concert, put on by the musical group Malie with a grant from thhe Hasegawa Komuten Relations Board, and has grown into a week-long festival that aims to educate, promote, preserve, and perpetuate the Hawaiian culture for all people.
