2024 Festivals

Frankenmuth Oktoberfest - Frankenmuth, MI - Sep 19 to Sep 22, 2024
Growing up in Metro Detroit, we always made an annual trip to Frankenmuth in the fall to enjoy the German food in in Michigan’s Little Bavaria. This is the only Oktoberfest outside of Munich to be sanctioned by them. The annual event will have live music from German bands, polka dancing and wiener dog races at the Harvey Kern Community Pavilion. The festivities kick off on Thursday night at 3 PM. Organizers generally expect between 8,000 and 10,000 to be there over the course of the weekend. Adult admission is $10 with no charge on Sunday.

The Santa Train - Coopersville, MI - Nov 25 to Dec 23, 2023
Take a ride in a decorated coach and elves will escort your family to sit with Santa. Each child gets a present from Santa’s Big Bag. The Story-Telling Princess will lead Christmas carol singing and read Chris Van Alsburg’s book, the Polar Express. Weekends only, with tickets starting at $19.25 (children under 2 are free).

Christmas in Pentwater - Pentwater, MI - Nov 25, 2023
Enjoy the holiday weekend in Pentwater. The Pentwater Fire Department will continue their tradition of bringing Santa Claus to town. Santa will be escorted to the Village Green Saturday at 5PM by Fire Truck. Santa will be available for visits and photos immediately following his arrival. Parents are encouraged to bring a camera to capture the magical moment with Santa Claus.

Detroit Turkey Trot - Detroit, MI - Nov 23, 2023
Thanksgiving day races with 10k Turkey Trot, Mashed Potato Mile, 5k Stuffing Strut, 10k and 5k Drumstick Double, 5k and 1 mile Cranberry Combo. Thousands of participants dress in costumes for the event. Often declared “The Parade before The Parade”, participants frolic by the largest spectator crowd in Michigan. An annual event on the Friday before Thanksgiving in downtown Lansing. The city is decked out in millions of lights which attracts over 80,000 people for family fun. It feature ice sculptures, carriage rides, Santa parade, and free cookies and cider before the fireworks. The ride is a fun and picturesque bike tour over rolling countryside near the shore of Lake Michigan. You can visit art studios, wineries, cider mills, family farms, and orchards to take advantage of all that southwest Michigan has to offer. Holland Haven Marathon - Holland, MI - Sep 10, 2023
The Holland Haven Marathon is a unique event which traverses the shores of Lake Michigan. Runners will experience the beautiful lake shore as they travel from Grand Haven to Holland. There is also a 8k and half marathon race. The full marathon starts at Rosy Mound Elementary School in Grand Haven. The half marathon starts at Camp Geneva in Holland. The 8K starts at Crossfit Soaring Ledge in Holland. All three events end at Crossfit Soaring Ledge, with an after party featuring free beer, free climbing for the whole family, free food, live music, vendors, an awards ceremony, photo booth, and private showers/changing rooms.

Mackinac Bridge Walk - Mackinaw City, MI - Sep 4, 2023
Walk across the bridge from either St Ignace or Mackinaw City! Each year, between 25,000-60,000 people from across Michigan and beyond come to walk the Mackinac Bridge, the 5th longest suspension bridge in the world and the longest suspension bridge in the Western Hemisphere, at a total length of 26,372 feet (suspension length of 8,614 feet). The bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic, so walkers are encouraged to a) walk halfway across and then back b) walk all the way across and have a ride arranged to go back or c) walk all the way across and all the way back, about 10 miles (must cross the midway point by 10am to go all the way across the bridge). A fun fourth option could be a daytrip to Mackinac Island and taking the farry back to your origin point! The Mackinac Bridge Authority has recently declined to close the bridge for other events, so this is your chance to cross the Mighty Mac” without your car!”

Fantasyland is a magical place filled with the sights, sounds and smells of the Christmas season. Open every year since 1964, the tradition continues that so many families look forward to each year. See what it’s like up at the North Pole, where Santa’s elves are busy building, repariing, polishing, baking, tending reindeer, and all of the other chores that go into making Christmas happen. The Festival of Trees will display gorgeous Christmas trees. You’ll hear carols being sung by the Fantasyland School childrens’ choir, and the figures in the Shadow Boxes. The aromas of peppermint, cookies and chocolate hang in the air. Be sure to see the trains upstairs in the Lincoln Park Train Club. Make your visit even more special by taking a few moments to chat with Santa himself!

A one litre beer stein has historically been available for collectors to purchase. In past years, they served up 72 kegs of beer, more than 100 bottles of wine, 2000 bratwurst and 200 pounds of sauerkraut.
