Discover the biggest sales here on big screen TVs from Thanksgiving Day to Cyber Monday as we find savings for you at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart and other top electronics retailers.
There are three good times to get a great deal on a luxury television:
Black Friday – The Thanksgiving weekend has two of the biggest shopping days of the year, and retailers know that in order to earn those dollars they need to be price competitive. In fact, CNET says Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the biggest single days of TV sales. You won’t find a high end luxury television advertised as a Black Friday doorbuster, but that does not mean that you can’t get a great price on the TV that you have your heart set on. Retailers know that they can get you in the door with a great price, but a good price on a higher quality TV or more popular brand may lure you to buy it instead. So they are usually discounting their entire lineupq
Super Bowl – TV manufacturers and retailers know that there is no better time to entice someone to buy a monster TV than the idea that they can watch it with all of their friends at their Super Bowl party. They know that football fans will be looking for TVs that are 70 inches or more to mount in their living room, so the deals on high end tvs come out during this time of the year. Retailers often use this period in January and early February to clear out the models that have been on the shelves for nine months before the new tvs arrive.
Spring – New televisions typically come out in March and April, which means that last year’s model will go on sale to make way for the new versions with the latest technology. If you don’t need the new model, this presents a great way to get a more affordable price on the luxury television that you have been dreaming about owning.
Which should I buy? The 8K vs 4K Dilemma:
There are a few factors that enter into the equation when determining the answer to the question of whether it makes sense to buy the latest and greatest new technology, or stick to the tried and true older technology.
Price: 8K TVs are still on the newer side and they continue to in most cases be more expensive then a 4K TV. The prices on the newer technology continues to come down, and we have seen a few examples of when you might be able to get them around the same price, but ordinarily you are looking to pay more for a 8K.
Upscaling: Since content in 8K resolution is not readily available, and most content is instead made for 4K televisions, one of the key questions in whether it is worth it is whether the TV is going to display only the 4K content, or whether it can fill in the missing pixels in a great way to bring the 4K content closer to as if you were viewing in 8K.
Bragging Rights: Will you be the first one of your friends to get an 8K television? Will your friends be coming over and is it worth it to see your friends jaw drop when they see your 8K tv for the first time?
Timeframe: Are you just looking for a TV to get you through a few years, and then are planning to upgrade to 8K later? Or do you need to plan for the future because you aren’t going to be able to get a different TV in a few years and you are going to need to keep the one you buy now?
Comparisons: We have also heard that on smaller TVs, consumers struggle to tell the difference between 8K content and 4K content. The commentary that we have seen is that it becomes possible to distinguish them on the larger size televisions
Gaming – The new consoles are 8K ready, but the feature was disabled initially. Sony has said that it intends to release the feature in a future upgrade. If you have an 8K television, you will be able to take advantage of it when it is ready.
What retailers will have Black Friday deals on large televisions?
When we are looking for deals on 80 + inch televisions, we normally look in three places.
1. The manufacturer website: Samsung and Sony both sell their televisions on their website, and they usually offer decent Black Friday deals. We typically don’t find them as good as some of the best retailer television deals, but if you are looking for a deal on a specific television to fill out your living room, basement or man cave, they can be a good place to check pricing on.
2. Best Buy – With approximately 1000 stores, the largest consumer electronics specialty retailer presents an opportunity for deal seekers to check out the high end and luxury televisions in person. If you are trying to decide between Sony and Samsung, or 75 inch to 88 inch in size, going to the store is one of the best ways to do so. This is our favorite, and the bonus is that they also have great Black Friday deals on televisions, so it is never a wasted trip (even if you ultimately find it cheaper on Amazon or elsewhere).
3. Amazon – America’s largest online retailer has an amazing selection of high end televisions and is one of the places that we turn every year when trying to find 80 and 85 inch tv deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
