Chicago dominates Haunted Houses in Illinois with the best haunted attractions within a 90 minute drive of downtown Chicago.  Year after year, haunted houses add scary rooms, animations, and actors to improve the Halloween entertainment experience. One of the reasons that ghosts love haunting houses in Chicago is because they don’t have to make any scary noises. The Windy City takes care of that job on its own! There’s so many bodies buried in the Chicago area by the mobsters of yore that there’s an almost endless supply to haunt the haunted houses near me. Find your favorites below!

13th Floor Haunted House - Shiller Park, IL
Advertised as Chicago’s largest haunted house starts the season on September 10th.  Lots of new attractions this year. An all new world famous haunted house is back in Chicago. It features the attractions The Possession and Dead End District The Cell. Why aren’t there a 13th floor in buildings? Tickets prices depend on the date. The 13th Floor opens in September. Open Friday and Saturday nights in September and nearly every night throughout October.  The attractions run from 7 pm to 12 pm on Friday and Saturday. On some other nights it closes at 10 pm or 11 pm.  The 13th Floor has over 79000 Facebook likes.

Abandoned Haunted House Complex - Mount Pleasant, WI
Abandoned is open from late September on every Friday and Saturday nights in October through early November plus some added dates near Halloween.  Stalker Haunted Cornfield has Ambush and Hysteria Haunted Houses.  Save money and get the combo ticket to get you into all three. Abandoned Haunted House Complex is home to three entirely different Haunted Houses. Abandoned’s Haunted Complex is designed to attack our customer’s senses in multiple ways to ensure people of all types are entertained.  Our Haunted House Complex utilizes a continual walk-through approach for our events. There are 2 entry lines that allow customers to enter either the Ambush / Hysteria Combo ticket or a separate line to enter Stalker Haunted Cornfield. We also offer Quick pass upgrades which allow customers to use their own lines to enter and to SIGNIFICANTLY reduce your wait times

Basement of the Dead - Aurora, IL
Returning with Basement of the Dead in late September.  The haunt attractions here are Zombie Outbreak Apocalypse. Looks like a great event with chance to shoot “live” zombies with laser tag.  Advertised as America’s scariest haunted house.  Open most Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday nights in October beginning September 23rd. Doors open at 7 pm. Tickets available starting at $35 with some nights discounted.  Parking nearby at Hollywood Casino is $4. Warning the city will tow cars not properly parked.  Basement of the Dead has over 81000 Facebook likes.

Canyon Trail Cemetery - Carol Steam, IL
The Halloween displays go up in early October and run nightly the rest of October.  One of the best local yard haunts in Chicago. Canyon Trail features a cemetery, graveyard, undead creatures, pumpkins, ghosts, and pumpkinhead animatronics. Free entry to the public but you can donate canned food for a local charity if you wish to help. This is a classic spooky and scary Halloween display with no blood or gore.

Dungeon of Doom Haunted House - Zion, IL
The fun begins this season in late September.  Find ghouls, deranged clowns and two floors of fear at the Dungeons of Doom Haunted House. A 40,000 square foot haunt with 80 actors everyday. It takes about 30 minutes to go through the Dungeon of Doom and about another 20 minutes to go through the other two haunt attractions Buried Dead and Alive. This haunt has been scary for over 20 years. Tickets are $30 for multiple attraction scares depending on the night. Some of the new scenes are Clown Crazy 8’s, DOD Massive Underworld, Tool Room Coop, Attic Fervor, Hades Boiler Room, Cabin of Carnage. It takes between 30-50 minutes to go through the attractions at this ticket level. Visit every Friday, Saturday, and most Sunday’s in October plus some other dates. Doors open at 7:00 pm.  Dungeon of Doom has over 26000 Facebook likes.

Enchanted Haunted Trails - Burbank, IL
This is really three full family entertainment and amusement centers in Illinois. Burbank – 7759 S. Harlem Avenue, Burbank, IL 60459. Haunted Trails is open every day all year long. They feature batting cages, go karts, miniature golf, rides, a game room, October Haunted House, birthday parties, and restaurants. They are open 10 am to either 10 or 11 pm. Featured attractions are go karts, Laser Tag, a game room, miniature golf, karaoke, krazy cars, restaurants, and parties.

Fear Fest - South Beloit, IL
Fear Fest returns on weekends beginning in early October.  Fear Fest features a haunted barn, fun house, and haunted hayride. Celebrating over 20 years of fear.  Tickets are $15 each haunt for a combo for $40. Doors are open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights starting September 30th. Doors close at 10 pm on Sunday.  Discount coupon available on their web page.

Halloween Town - Algonquin, IL
A free interactive yard haunt display.  It goes up in full around the middle of October. There are pneumatic and moving props within the cemetery gates, an inviting graveyard walk thru brings spectators and victims of every age up close and personal to their darkest fears! Zombies, gargoyles, bats and skeletons await you in this haunted cemetery!

Haunt 31 - Lake in the Hills, IL
Haunt 31 is one of the largest yard haunts in Illinois.  Now with over 10,000 visitors each October it features gravedigger, dungeons, electric chairs, hangman, mud creature, and more. It is open every day (weather permitting) starting in early October beginning nightly at dusk. Entry tickets are free but donation are accepted.

Haunted Forest Walk - Woodridge, IL
Haunted Forest Walk returns for two nights in the middle of October before Halloween.  This year it runs October 21st and 22nd. The hayrides depart from the Community Center. Parking is available at the Public Library or Village Hall. Tickets are $8. Attraction is open nights from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm plus an additional time of 1 pm to 3 pm on Saturday.  Be careful as you walk the Haunted Forest Trail.

Haunted Hills Hospital - Lake Station, IN
Haunted Hills Hospital opens in late September.  It runs Friday through Sunday nights in October.  Haunted Hills Hospital holds the most psychotic patients that were too evil for a regular mental facility. The Medical staff used the patients to perform crazy experiments that were supposedly meant to cure them. However, no one was ever helped and the patients were driven further into madness before being left to rot and die. But now the patients are in control! Travel through the hell and terror that has taken over the grounds of Hills Hospital. Will you make it out or will you become the newest patient?

Haunted Trails at Perry Farm - Kankakee, IL
Hope to see everyone in 2022. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for children under age 13. This is the 17th annual Haunted High School. Open Friday and Saturday nights in October.  Also known as Haunted Trails at Perry Farm.

Haunted Trails Family Entertainment Center - Burbank, IL
Haunted Trails of Burbank is a unique, year-round “Halloween-themed” family entertainment center. Open year-round, Haunted Trails specializes in family-fun, birthday parties and group celebrations for all occasions and ages. Seasonal park attractions (open April thru October) include 18-hole award-winning miniature-golf, go-karts, jr. karts, batting cages and amusement rides. Two game rooms are open year-round. The Monster’s Tomb Game Room offers over hundred sports, video and redemption games plus a large redemption prize center. It’s adjacent to Charmin Charley’s 150 seat restaurant/party room which offers homemade pizza and a variety of sandwiches, burgers and more. The Golfside Game Room is located on the Midway by the Miniature Golf course.

Haunts Against Hunger “Halls of Evil Haunted House” - Park Forest, IL
Kicks off for four nights in late October.  An annual  community and charity haunted house for 10 years. They collect food and distribute it through three local food banks. Sounds like a wonderful cause and they put on a good show. Don’t think the Haunts Against Hunger team does not horrify their visitors!  Each year the maze and events changes.  You never know what they will throw at you!  This year Haunts Against Hunger Presents:  Halls of Evil — they want you to step into their world!  The nightmare the HAH team presents is a good one and every penny goes to the various food pantries to help families during the holidays!  Fee:  $5 if you bring canned food donations      $8 if you do not bring canned food donations.  There will be vendors available selling food and other items during the nights of the shows.  Support HAH as we continue to fight against hunger in America!

Hayride of Horror - Lockport, IL
The fright begins in Lockport in early October.  It runs every Friday and Saturday nights in October. We invite you to ride our Hayride of Horror through the heart of this great park while the spirits of the long forgotten welcome you home. Dark and mysterious forces will play with your imagination as our creatures inspire fear.  Eerie movies will air on our 20 foot outdoor movie screen while you await your Hayride of Horror, and our bonfire will warm you while keeping the evil from incinerating your soul. Line entertainment will keep you both terrified and delighted.

Holiday Habits - Lake in the Hills, IL
Starts October 1st and runs nightly the entire month of October.  This is a Halloween yard display complete with graveyard cemetery, fog, special effects, sound, and animatronics.  Walk around… you never know what you may find or what may find you! This is a free attraction open every Friday and Saturday plus Halloween in October.

Jonamac Haunted Corn Maze - Malta, IL
Opens up for fright beginning September 30th, 2022.  The Jonamac Orchard holds its Haunted Corn Maze every Friday and Saturday night throughout October. It is open from dark until 10:30 pm. Tickets are $17. Their 10 acre cornfield has over 3 miles of winding paths and Halloween decorations.  This is a wonderful fun orchard with daytime pumpkin patch, apple picking, bakery, corn maze, and more.  At night it turns into an evil fright corn maze that you will enjoy.  The pumpkin patch opens late September and the corn maze in late August.

Karnival of Karnage - Belvidere, IL
Tickets available at the Karnival of Karnage. This year’s theme is Delirium. Doors open at 7 pm every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday starting in early October.  Event is held at the Boone County Fairgrounds.  They say they are really scary and do not recommend for people pregnant or with heart conditions.  For others you may be forced to chicken out.  No shame for being afraid.  Attractions have run for over 14 years.

Massacre Haunted house - Montgomery, IL
Massacre Haunted House returns to the same location this fall. This is a 30,000 square foot attraction with 60 rooms of terror and more than 75-100 ghastly clad actors. They open in late September and runs every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in October plus added dates. Tickets are for the 2 combo Massacre Haunted House and Fear City 3D. Doors are open 7 pm until midnight on Friday and Saturday or 11 pm on all other nights. Note considered too extreme for children under age 13.  This is one of the most popular haunted attractions in Illinois and the country.  Massacre Haunted House has over 315000 Facebook likes.  Also has laser tag and axe throwing at this location.

Nightmare at the Terrace - Worth, IL
Open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night the last three weekends in October.  Tickets are $10.  Are you brave enough to walk through the shadows of your worst fears? The nightmare begins the moment you first step into the Terrace Centre and does not stop until you weave your way through 12 rooms of night terrors. Realm of Terror - Round Lake Beach, IL
Sorry folks but Realm of Terror will not open this fall given the current virus concerns.  They will return in 2021.  This is the 18th year of fear for Realm of Terror. Nothing you will witness at Realm of Terror will you ever see at any other Attraction, from the Parking Lot to the very last moment, you will be inside of a winding maze of extreme terror unlike any other.  If you are 21 or over this haunt has a bar serving beer, wine, bombs, shots, and mixed drinks. Realm is open Friday and Saturday nights in October plus a couple of Sundays.  Doors open at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $25 online.  A quote from their advertisement:  “Featuring the best in Makeup Effects created and supervised by FACEOFF Season 9 star, Stevie Calabrese you can expect to see some of the scariest things a mind could conjure. Walk through fully immersive sets and environments created by professional set designers, and experience horror even with your eyes tightly shut with soundscapes custom created to set a horrifying tone”.  Realm of Terror has over 22000 Facebook likes.  Located near Six Flags.

Reaper’s Realm - Hammond, IN
Reaper’s Realm has 3 haunts including Reaper’s Mansion (haunted house) and Reaper’s Woods. Get the combo price plus a carnival ride. Doors open at 7 pm. Attraction runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights starting in early October. Prices can vary depending on the night.  This haunt has been operating for over 28 years.

Six Flags Fright Fest - Gurnee, IL
Sorry folks but it appears the theme park is closed this fall due to virus concerns.  They hope to see everyone in 2021.  Fright Fest (Great America Six Flags) is a very popular fall attraction between Chicago and Milwaukee.  Each fall the park re-opens on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as the ultimate Halloween attraction Fright Fest. Their season operates for 23 nights. It has 5 haunted houses, mazes, shows, midway, food, and lots and lots of rides. They have renamed some of their roller coasters with Halloween themes but others are just too great to change.  So if you are into thrills both the haunted houses and roller coasters will put a scare into you. Spend the day, get there early. Great America really makes the park a Halloween attractions and has lots of employee-actors dressed to surprise and scare you.

Sonny Acres Haunted House - West Chicago, IL
Haunted Wagon Ride starts in late September.  Fall Festival opens September. Sonny Acres Farms runs a wonderful year around farm attraction. During its Fall Festival it operates a Haunted Hayride beginning at 7 pm. The hayride lasts approximately 20 minutes. It runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights in October. Tickets go on sale at 5 pm. During the day they have pony rides, a kiddie coral, a petting zoo, dizzy zone, a haunted barn, wagon rides, and lots of other fun and food around the farm.

Statesville Haunted Prison - Crest Hill, IL
Sorry folks but Statesville Haunted Prison will be closed this fall due to virus concerns. They will return in 2021 and hope that everyone remains safe this fall. One of the best haunted houses around, Statesville Haunted Prison and City of the Dead have a ticket price of $30 and is well worth the money. The theme is prisoners have rioted and now you are face to face with 100 criminals too evil to die in 23 maximum security cells.  Crest Hill is approximately 36 miles from Chicago.

The Catacombs - Chicago, IL
The Catacombs returns in early October.  Dates open are Friday and Saturday in October plus a few additional dates.  Check schedule on website. Tickets are $10 at the door.  Hours are 7 PM to 11 PM.  The basement home for ghouls, ghosts, and creatures underneath St. Pascals Church.  Where dreams become your nightmares:  “For close to one hundred years, there has been a place that has harbored the undead and jailed the damned – a place that was never intended on being unearthed by mortal men. Since 1914, The Catacombs, located underneath the historic St. Pascal Church on Chicago’s northwest side, has long been a home to the ghouls and ghosts, monsters and madmen. The barrier that prevented these very creatures from entering our realm falls every October, allowing the undesireables to roam free.”
